This Wednesday, the Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration is continuing its review of the draft law "On some additions and amendments to the law "On protection against discrimination".

Present at the session, MP and leader of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group Taulant Balla focused on the role and importance of the additions to this law, based on the growing needs of the times.

According to Balla, over the years, types of discrimination have increased, also driven by technology, while he stated that legal action is also very important for preventing and treating discrimination.

"It is a coincidence that I come here today on a day as significant as December 10, International Human Rights Day. There is no more significant day for those who need to be protected and who are morally unacceptable. These are related to gender, race, ethnicity, minority, religion, but also age, economic status and any status. I make this presentation because discrimination occurs when someone is treated differently because they are different. Equality is not a biological fact, but also a legal and political decision. That is why I have come, to bring improvements for the common goal of any form of discrimination. Since 2010, when this law was initiated, I have tried to make every kind of contribution in relation to society. The more time goes by, the more the spaces for discrimination increase. I think we have improved as much as possible, what I call the 'legal architecture' of the law. The changes had mainly to do with new forms of discrimination, also from technology. The battle "The biggest problem is hate speech, multiple and intersectional discrimination, and other more serious forms, when repeated continuously. In 2020, the number of legal cases related to discrimination increased. Discrimination by citizenship was also included, as a new form, especially for foreigners seeking residency. Discrimination does not coincide with the values ??of the European family we want to join," Balla said./CNA
