Democratic Party candidate for MP, Jonathan Pano, reacted today regarding the rumors that he became part of politics due to his father's role.
In a post on social media, Pano explains that the mandate is not being given away and that, according to him, the time has come for a new generation, with high ideals and clean hands in politics.
Pano also emphasizes that he sees his duty in the Assembly as a responsibility and not as a gift.
"Recently, I've seen comments saying: "Pastor's son in politics?" and "Do you have to have a pastor father to become an MP?"
"Isn't the time for a new generation, with high ideals and clean hands? Doesn't Albania need people with character and principles, who see politics as a calling to serve and not as an opportunity to profit?"
I am not being given a mandate as a deputy. I am fighting for it!
My father taught me that in life, humility does not diminish you, and gratitude makes you grow. Pride and ingratitude mark the small and ambitious man, but a man is only realized when he fights his own battles.
In order to get involved in the 2023 local elections, I had to resign from my job as a bank auditor in one of the largest banks in the country.
After being elected as a member of the Tirana Municipality Council, for two years and counting I have represented my voters in the Finance, Infrastructure & Social Housing, and Youth Committees, protecting the interests of citizens and denouncing abuses of public finances.
I participated in 44 protests in front of the Tirana Municipality, strongly denouncing corruption. It turned out that our fight was a just fight. We knew from the beginning that the causes we represented had to be defended until the end. The battle in this direction continues, and I do not intend to get tired because I am fighting a just fight.Just as I won the primaries with the help of the Democrats, I hope to win my seat in parliament with the help of the Albanians. I do not ask for favors and I do not see politics as a gift, but as a responsibility. This country does not need a political legacy of corruption, but people who are willing to cleanse politics of this mentality.
Yes, I am the pastor's son. The greatest wealth and the most important foundation in my life, as for every person, remains family. I am grateful to God for choosing the parents I have for me. I hope that one day, my children will feel the same way.
I am proud of my father, who for more than 30 years has fought for values, to protect family, life, human rights, speaking out against injustice and corruption. And he has done this without ever getting involved in politics. Not because he lacked courage, offers or talent, but because he believes that his calling is exactly what he does: building a society that has values, freedom, faith and family at its center.
I have chosen to take an active role where decisions are made. Because this is my vocation. Because I cannot sit idly by while I see how opportunities are wasted, how a handful of people get rich while the majority barely support their families. Faith teaches me not to remain silent in the face of injustice. Not to be indifferent to evil. To act for justice and to be a light where there is darkness.
Over the past few years, we have gone through an ordeal of challenges:
- From the debate on parent 1 and parent 2,
- In three court cases with the woke agenda,
- In confronting the draft law on surrogacy,
- In the battle against the sterilization of young people,
- In the fight for the lives of the unborn against abortion.
These are not theoretical debates. These are battles for the future of Albania!
A fiscal project pro-family and pro-lifeAlbania is in a deep demographic crisis. The population is shrinking, families are economically weakened, and the state is ignoring this reality. The fiscal policies of the left-wing government have weighed heavily on the middle class and have created a hopeless climate for young people who want to build a family and a stable life in Albania.
Precisely for this reason, we have proposed a new economic model pro-family and life. This fiscal model aims to:
- Tax relief for young families – Income tax reduction for parents raising children and support for young couples.
- Support for mothers and pregnant women – Policies that encourage births and support women who decide to become mothers, by providing financial and social assistance.
- Empowerment of the middle class – Fiscal policies directed at families, not at oligarchs. An economy where the family is the foundation of development, not a burden on the state.
- Tax reduction on children's products – Abolition of VAT on basic products for children and families, such as baby food, diapers and essential products.
- Protection of family life and values ??in public policy – ??Policies that promote births and protect the family from harmful ideologies that try to break it up.
There are some things in life that cannot be exchanged and some great loves that cannot be replaced! God. Family. Nation. These are the pillars that guide me and the principles by which I live.
But be careful! In this world there will be no shortage of those who are willing to sell everything and think they can buy everything. Those who treat politics as a business, and Albania as a commodity that can be alienated for personal interests. If politics were only for those who have stolen Albania, then what hope do we have?
If there is one thing that Albania needs more than ever, it is people with integrity, with morals, with values, who believe in something greater than themselves. And if anyone thinks a pastor can't have a son in politics, then the question to ask is: Do you have more faith in those who have ruined this country, or in those who were raised with the principle of service and honesty?
I know why I am here and what I fight for. And I do it for God, Family, & Nation!", Pano writes. /CNA
