From Rama, Veliaj and Berisha to Meta/ How politics was decided in the attack on SPAK

The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, reported on Monday to the KLP the annual work of the institutions he leads, where among other things he raised the external pressure on the institution as a concern . Crime, media and political actors have launched an attack on the Special Prosecution. We will focus on the latter, politics.

Initially, it was the opposition representatives who launched an attack on SPAK , when, by order of the Prosecutor's Office, the Special Court placed opposition leader Sali Berisha under house arrest. From the balcony of his apartment, where he had been staying for about a year, Berisha attacked SPAK, the head of this institution, every day in front of his supporters, while being accused of passive corruption in connection with the "Partizani" file .

"Skapi, a criminal organization", "Dumani sleeps on crime files", "Edi Rama's mercenaries" , etc., were some of the accusations that Berisha made from his balcony.

Ilir Meta of the Liberal Party was also attacked , when he was taken under investigation for a number of issues and criminal offenses such as corruption, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.

"Criminal organization", "Directed justice" , Meta declared to SPAK before being arrested.



While his arrest in October last year, he considered a bandit kidnapping, exploding into attacks through his soldiers, or posts on social networks.


Prime Minister Edi Rama, who broke the rule of silence with the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, seemed to have been distant until this moment .

"A lame justice system, " declared Edi Rama, while threatening SPAK not to dare ask for the prime minister's phone number .


On the other hand, from his Durrës prison cell, Erion Veliaj, with abusive language, attacked the prosecutor and the judge in his case, through continuous posts on social networks, while denying the serious accusations against him .

On February 10, 2025, Erion Veliaj was arrested, following investigations conducted by prosecutor Olsi Dado and a decision made by judge Erion Bani. That same day, Veliaj reacted with a status on social media attacking the prosecutor, whom he described as a lunatic and a lustful indictee.

Veliaj continued for days with the same abusive language. On February 11, Veliaj recounted how he spent his first night in prison, calling prosecutor Olsi Dado a perverted individual, and the indictment, according to Veliaj, was hallucinatory and criminal perversion.



One after another, representatives of Albanian politics lined up against the work of SPAK , attacking it when their own were attacked, praising it when its opponents were brought to justice. This also shows the external pressure that Altin Dumani mentioned in the report to the KLP as one of the main problems of the Special Prosecution Office.

However, the head of SPAK, in every communication to the media, has underlined that they are not influenced by politics. He has also emphasized that citizens' trust in this institution has increased, as has been proven by various surveys conducted in the country./ CNA
