The Greek Foreign Minister, Giorgos Gerapetritis, has reacted to the case of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

During a press conference, Giorgos Gerapetritis again warned Albania with European integration.

He said that Greece cannot accept in the EU candidate countries that do not meet the membership criteria in terms of judiciary and democracy.

According to him, Albania must prove that it respects the rights of the Greek national minority and the rule of law.

" The case of the elected mayor of the Himar Municipality, Fredi Belert, I think constitutes a deviation from European law. It is an aberration, as long as a mayor elected for the Local Government, has not been able to assume his duties, because he has not been allowed, to take the oath and assume his duties.

This, from the point of view of our country and from the point of view of international law, constitutes a clear violation of Mr. Beleri's political rights, a violation of the presumption of innocence and the rule of law," stressed the Greek Foreign Minister./ CNA
