The well-known Belgian media outlet "L'echo", in an article published this Monday, wrote about the Belgian process for the well-known 'Toyota Yaris' file and directly described it as a test for Albania's European ambitions.
According to Belgian media, the 'Toyota' case begins its trial this Monday at the Criminal Court of Brussels. The case dates back to 2018, when almost 3.5 million euros in cash were discovered in two 'Toyota Auris' vehicles coming from Belgium and which were due to dock at the port of Durres.
"L'echo" describes it as a classic case of money laundering and also another proof of Albania's desire for membership in the European Union, a possibility that is growing, but which according to Belgian media continues to face the growth of corruption and the control of criminal organizations, a cancer whose metastases can be found in all layers of society in the small Balkan state.
The article mentions the court hearings held on this issue to date and the fight against criminal organizations, which is considered a challenge to Albania's European integration./CNA
