Water Operator is created/ Rama: Distribution to 58 companies was a real

Prime Minister Edi Rama is presenting the creation of the Water Operator this Wednesday.

In his speech during the presentation, Rama emphasized the importance of this sector.

Among other things, Rama added that this initiative comes due to a series of problems created by previous mismanagement, but also investment requirements.

 "It is a sector that requires administration and investment. But we are now convinced of the progress of a reform for the government's involvement in the shares of water companies, that we finally have no reason to believe in a solution that was suggested to us many years ago, but also in the experiences of successful countries."

The fragmentation in the name of decentralization of the water distribution system into 58 companies was a real disaster.

As well as the lack of experience, coupled with a lack of investment in maintenance, led to very unjustifiable situations.

"On our part, we have made massive investments from the central government and if we look at the map today, from 4 areas that were supplied with water in 2013 and the loss in the network was close to 70%, we have a completely different picture, but with what was and not with what we have, even more so when they want us to excel in tourism and we have the peak of tourism that requires service," said Rama. /CNA
