"I don't expect a functional Parliament"/ Mediu: Rama's goal

The Chairman of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, commented today regarding the approaching start of the new legislature.

In a television interview, Mediu said that he does not expect functionality from the launch of the new Parliament's proceedings.

Mediu accused Rama of aiming to turn the Assembly into an appendage of the government.

"I do not expect a functional Parliament, because one of Rama's goals has been to disfigure the Albanian Parliament, to not give it the legal and constitutional authority it has. And moreover, this Parliament comes from manipulated elections. So I think the Parliament will simply be an appendage of the government.

On the other hand, regarding the opposition's actions, I have had discussions with Berisha and we have agreed to have as many parliamentary groups as possible, because this gives the opposition more breathing space in the Albanian Parliament. There is a deliberate one-sided interpretation by the media as if they are taking away deputies from the DP.

"It is not like that at all. We are a body of deputies that emerged from the coalition of the May 11 elections. But the creation of groups has the effect of a more rational debate if it is well combined and focused on the issues that the opposition prioritizes," Mediu said. /CNA
