Running in Tirana in the May 11 elections/ Meta: PL will achieve historic result

The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, stated today that his candidacy for Tirana in the May 11 elections is a guarantee for democracy. In an audio message, Meta emphasizes that the Freedom Party will achieve extraordinary results, primarily in Tirana, but also in the other 8 districts of the country.

Meta declares that the parliamentary elections will mark the end of presidentialism in Albania.

Meta says that the Freedom Party will wage the greatest battle in the service of the country, fulfilling a historic mission launched 17 years ago.

In the long audio message sent from the cell, Meta does not hesitate to mention the allies from the coalition, as he states that he has their full support.

"Dear citizens,

Meta for Tirana will be a guarantee for democracy. On May 11, I am convinced that the presidential system will end and the surest guarantee for this will be the Freedom Party and the extraordinary result that it will achieve, first of all in Tirana, but also in the other 8 Regions. This is our main mission, 17 years since 2008 when Edi Rama imposed constitutional changes by conditioning closed lists, the consequences of which are catastrophic, as we all experience today. Together with the then LSI MPs and several fellow MPs from other parties, we also went on a hunger strike in the Assembly to oppose the violation that was committed against the Constitution overnight and warning of the undermining of parliamentarism and accountability.

Therefore, I am convinced that May 11 will be the last time when Albanian citizens do not know who their MP is, to whom they must hold accountable for 4 years.

The Freedom Party is in this coalition "DP-Alliance for a Greater Albania" not only to overthrow the Narco-regime, but above all to permanently restore functional democracy and guarantee citizens' control over deputies. For this, our coalition must achieve a victory with 84 mandates, so that the future opposition of "Rilindja" has no chance to block this return of democracy and the permanent empowerment of citizens.

For this, the Freedom Party will wage the greatest battle in the service of the country, fulfilling a historic mission begun 17 years ago. On May 11, we must first achieve a historic and spectacular result in Tirana, the highest in these 20 years, since the founding of this political force.

The Freedom Party has not entered the coalition "PD-Alliance for a Greater Albania" neither to gain 2 deputies on the closed lists in Tirana nor 4 in all of Albania. Nor to make Ilir Meta an MP, because we can get such a mandate even with 15 thousand votes. But what value do 3 deputies with 5 thousand votes each have? These are half-MPs.

No. We are entering not to take 2 or 3 deputies from the Democrats, but to give them at least 2 more deputies that they would never have been able to get without the Freedom Party. For this major goal, we need to win at least over 50 thousand votes in the Tirana District, not including the diaspora, as much as the result of the SMI in 2017 in the most difficult battle against the largest coalition of May 17 that aimed to exterminate the SMI. Therefore, the vote for Ilir Meta in the open list of the Tirana District, of the coalition "DP-Alliance for a Greater Albania" is the vote of the Freedom Party, but also the guarantee of the permanent return of democracy.

Meanwhile, the Freedom Party guarantees that the first and indisputable condition of the future governing coalition will be the elimination of closed lists, which Edi Rama imposed 17 years ago to undermine parliamentarism and accountability.

I am convinced that this will be fully supported by the Democratic Party, the PDIU and other allies.

On this occasion, I would like to highly appreciate the candidacy of the Chairman of the PDIU on the open list for the Tirana District.

This will end this absurd situation that Edi Rama has invented, where the majority of MPs belong to the mother and the minority belong to the stepmother.

Meanwhile, Albanians are practically invited to vote for the minority of deputies, because the majority of future deputies have been locked in the CEC drawer with Edi Rama's signature.

6 more weeks to eliminate the closed lists of Edi Rama and "Rilindja" and the guarantee of the Freedom Party and Ilir Meta is irrevocable.

Therefore, not only all Freedom Party voters will vote for Ilir Meta, but also all the socialists who were exterminated piece by piece by Edi Rama over the course of 17 years, with disloyalty, to replace them today with anonymous people with their heads bowed and their cards raised.

I also strongly welcome last night's statement by the leader of the Democratic Party and the Chairman of the coalition "DP - Alliance for a Greater Albania", Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, that he will support open lists to return MPs to the citizens and to restore power to the sovereign as defined by the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.

Edi Rama's hostage-taking of democracy, parliamentarism, and accountability has its days numbered, and the closed lists he invented will be thrown into the dustbin of history on May 11th.

I call on all members, sympathizers of the Freedom Party, all those who have followed us for 20 years, because of great causes, but also all citizens who have become indifferent due to closed lists that do not represent them, to engage, from the Rogozhina bridge to the Fushë-Krujë bridge, from the Maminas underpass to the Krraba tunnel, to mobilize like never before in this historic battle of May 11 that will divide the eras.

Let's turn May 11th into a referendum against the closed lists that installed the Narcoregime and into a referendum that guarantees 100% open lists, forever, returning power to the citizens and the sovereign.
