The EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, said that SPAK should be left to do its own work.

Gonzato said that the EU has never maintained a double standard regarding its stance on supporting the new justice.

He made these comments after the attacks of Ilir Meta and Erion Veliaj. 

"There are no double standards. Support for the justice system is unwavering, but the message is the same and permanent. We place a high priority on justice reform and we must let it do its job," Gonzato said. 

The ambassador did not comment on the appearance at SPAK of the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, but once again underlined his support for SPAK. 

"We do not comment on investigations, but you know our support for SPAK. I support the work of this institution. The rule of law, the fight against corruption, are part of the basic chapters of the EU that will be opened first and closed last. I full confidence in SPAK, we continue working with the Municipality, for green transport, schools, etc. My objective is to work together", said the EU ambassador./ CNA
