One of the arguments being used most against SPAK in the Veliaj case is the security measure. Why is Veliaj being investigated behind bars and not free? Why was Tirana's head taken off its shoulders and the work left half-hearted, without direction, at the start of the campaign?


In fact, Veliaj chose this path himself.

For several years, corruption scandals in the Municipality of Tirana had begun to surface, culminating in the grandiose 5D corruption scheme, which had been taking place for years in the highest instances at the heart of the Municipality.

This coincided with other investigations against him and his family. This case was a good opportunity for Veliaj to resign, to give the Municipality the opportunity to reorganize, without breaking its back from the burden that its officials had placed on it.

As a result, today he would perhaps have the opportunity to appear before SPAK with lawyers twice a month and defend himself against the charges with patience.


But he chose the other path, the one chosen by those he claimed to despise. He chose to hold on tightly to the chair and power of the City Hall , the largest in the country.

He decided to play big politics, continuing to appear triumphant on television, neglecting the troubles of citizens and threatening investigators.

He sought to convey the message that he stood above legal gravity and that violations of the law could be covered with a brush, just like Tirana's outdated facades.

Apparently, his calculations were wrong and now he has to experience with dignity the path he chose for himself.
