Dumani-Celibashi meeting/ Part of the roundtable on electoral transparency and

SPAK head Altin Dumani and CEC head Ilirjan Celibashi met again this week as part of a meeting held on electoral transparency and integrity.

At this important roundtable discussion, the focus of the conversation was on the financial transparency of political parties, electoral integrity, and the challenges related to the use of state resources.

For these institutions and not only, the 2025 elections are considered a key test for Albania's democracy and electoral standards in the context of negotiations with the EU.

"Only through joint commitment and strong monitoring mechanisms can we ensure transparent and fair elections."

I appreciated the initiative taken by the CEC, the General Prosecutor's Office, SPAK and the State Police to coordinate activities before the May 11 elections, with the aim of addressing electoral crimes and guaranteeing trust in the electoral process. "This initiative stems from the responsible behavior and maturity of these institutions," I emphasized during my speech.

ODIHR/OSCE reports, civil society analyses and strategic documents, such as the Roadmap on the Functioning of Democratic Institutions, have identified challenges and proposed measures to improve the electoral process. However, expectations for a more in-depth treatment of these issues in electoral reform have been only partially met.

In this regard, initiatives supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the British Embassy have helped analyze these challenges through civil society projects," the CEC statement said. /CNA
