The elected mayor of Himarë Municipality, Fredi Beleri, has reacted for the first time after the session of GJKKO that brought the case against him to trial, leaving him in prison.
In a reaction to the show Now with Erla Mëhilli on Euronews Albania, Beleri said that he expects from the judiciary "a courageous judge will be found, who will not be influenced by political pressure and will implement the law and the Constitution".
According to him, Prime Minister Rama with his public attitude towards him has influenced justice.
Conversation:
Erla Mëhilli: Mr. Beleri, today was the first session of the GjKKO against you, what do you expect from justice now?
Freddy Beleri:I expect from the judiciary that a courageous judge will be found, who will not be influenced by political pressure and will apply the law and the Constitution, not to ease my position but to put the honor of the reformed justice in place. It is unfortunate that the court, with the decisions it takes, certifies the violations of the police. I want to believe in justice, so I have made complaints and requests constantly, but in my case procedures were invented, forged documents, interceptions that no one knows when they were made and with what they were made. The principle "the end justifies the means" is currently being applied. In the words of someone convicted of fraud, I am in custody and there was no court to say that with so many "half facts" the file cannot be kept up. People's justice led by the one who has all the powers in one hand. The prosecution in my case, in violation of the Constitution, the police exercise it! The police "appointed" the prosecutors without lot, knowing their names the day before the registration of my process. Maybe this is the standard of justice in Albania, maybe I'm waiting too long when I ask for the law to be implemented. As for Rama's interference, I know as much as you have all heard: The insults during the campaign throughout Albania, the harassment by the police who depend on him, the fact that the prison police do not give me permission to swear , and his appearances before each of my court hearings. I heard his statements that the evidence is there since the police arrested me, that justice is independent and does not let justice speak for itself. Erla Mehilli: What do you expect from Official Athens?
Fredi Beleri: From Athens, as well as from any international organization, I expect them to use all instruments and not tolerate violations of the rule of law for any other cause, no matter how big it is.
Erla Mëhilli: Do you have a comment regarding DASH's attitude, which has been interpreted by some as a "shower" towards Athens?
Fredi Beleri: The question was asked by an independent journalist and not the official Athens. From the answer I am very satisfied as I have been looking for this for 4 months. The implementation of the law and the Albanian constitution are violated with both feet.
Erla Mëhilli: Do you believe that Prime Minister Edi Rama is out of this story and has let justice do justice as it has been expressed?
Fredi Beleri: Prime Minister Rama beyond any doubt influenced the statements and attacks against me to insinuate the issue from the police. When the judiciary is independent, there is no need for the prime minister to come out every three days to say that the judiciary is independent. And not only that, before every court session he comes out and makes statements to influence the decision-making of the justice bodies./ Euronews Albania
