"Thanks to the reform, the powerful have been punished" / Lamallari:

Present at the Conference "30 years of partnership and progress: Albania, the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission", Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, stated that the justice reform is the most profound undertaken in the countries of the region.

Lamallari said that thanks to the justice reform, justice institutions have also convicted people in power.

" Albania belongs to a different reality today, today it is fulfilling the main reforms.

Next week we will mark 10 years since the most profound justice reform in the region.

"The justice institutions have had the opportunity to investigate people in power. We will continue to support justice ," Lamallari declared.

The Minister emphasized the balanced relations between the three branches of government.

"A healthy relationship between the Government, Parliament and the Judiciary is a healthy balance, only through the "check and balance" principle can the courts deliver justice," said the minister.

Lamallari said that 60% of arrested people are in detention awaiting trial and this is turning into injustice.

"I have received reports that since the moment I took office, 60% of citizens who are in detention are awaiting the court's decision, the wait is turning into the greatest injustice.

The mediation system has proven successful.

"We are aware that the rule of law is not a station we arrive at, but a continuous journey ," he said.

Lamallari stated that there should be no distraction from the objective of providing justice to all.

"We must increase transparency and not waver from our ambitious goal of providing justice for all."

"Albania is currently reviewing the oversight of the judiciary by the Parliament ," Lamallari concluded his speech./ CNA
