"KiE key partner of Albania in 3 decades"/ Peleshi: "Venice"

Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi, at the opening of the Conference "30 years of partnership and progress: Albania, the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission", stated that the Council of Europe has been a key partner in the 30 years of democracy in our country.

Peleshi said that the Venice Commission enjoys a high reputation in Albania and with its opinions has helped resolve inter-institutional conflicts.

"In 3 decades, Albania has undergone major changes, the Council of Europe has been a key partner, while the Venice Commission has provided impartial advice.

I want to highlight the key role in difficult constitutional moments for the country, for the principle of democracy and the rule of law.

The Venice Commission, with its opinions, has resolved difficult inter-institutional relations. It has played a key role in judicial reform.

The Venice Commission enjoys a high reputation in Albania, which stems from its reliable work, declared Peleshi.

The Speaker said that the Assembly has already established the Electoral Reform Commission and the process will be open and transparent. Peleshi thanked the Council of Europe for the support it has given to the institution of the Assembly.

"The Assembly has established a Commission for Electoral Reform, we will consult with the Venice Commission, the process will be open and transparent.

Gratitude to the CoE office in support of the work of the Assembly.

"This conference is very important. Tomorrow, issues such as the vetting of magistrates will be discussed," he said.

Peleshi said that our country has only one path: to belong to the free world.
