Resolution on Kosovo/Shehu: Important for historical truth, the majority

Democratic Party MP Tritan Shehu stated today that the majority's rejection in the Assembly of the resolution recognizing the Serbian genocide in Kosovo is a recurring event.

In an interview on 'Syri Tv', Shehu described the resolution as very important, as according to him, it is related to historical truth, facts and evidence.

Shehu said that the public reason given by the majority was ridiculous.

"It is not the first time that this majority has rejected the same resolution. This time it rejected it again, refusing to put it on the agenda or bring it to Parliament. I see this resolution as very important for the historical truth, for today's conclusions and problems. It is a resolution that is a continuation of the resolution of the Kosovo Assembly, adopted a few years ago. The Assembly has called on the Albanian Assembly to adopt a resolution. It is a twin resolution with the resolution of the Kosovo Assembly, which recognizes and condemns the Serbian genocide in Kosovo in those years.

So, it is a resolution that is related to facts, evidence. If you read the text, there is a long list of evidence and facts of this genocide, where it is requested that the Albanian Parliament recognize this genocide, it seeks to condemn it and, most importantly, it seeks to call on and ask the Albanian government to internationalize the Serbian genocide in Kosovo before international courts, which Kosovo cannot do as a result of not being part of the UN. It is the duty of the Albanian government to assist the Kosovo government in internationalizing this problem, the monstrous crime. Not simply to condemn the crime, but to establish the truth in the country. Just as the International Court recognized and condemned the Serbian genocide in Srebrenica, which this Albanian Parliament did not pass when we presented the first resolution, but passed a distorted material on that problem. The Albanian Parliament must be put into motion.

The public reason they gave is ridiculous. I heard Balla say that the Albanian Parliament adopted a resolution 26 years ago, which is not true. This is done in the spirit of the resolution of the Kosovo Parliament, which was adopted only 3-4 years ago. The real reason is in the statement that Vu?i? made, where he said that he is convinced that all the parliaments of friendly countries will not adopt similar resolutions, and here he had it with the Albanian Parliament, which should have been the most active country, the most interested in condemning that genocide. Because Kosovo, Kosovars are Albanians. This is not a question of friendship between Rama and Vu?i?; here we have a policy of Rama, which prioritizes the Albania-Serbia relationship over the Albania-Kosovo relationship. It is truly historic: it sacrifices historical truth in favor of the Albania-Serbia relationship, and this is a problem.

We can have normal state relations with Serbia, but a goal cannot be crossed and Albania-Kosovo relations cannot be dependent on relations with Serbia. Priority, strategic for us are relations with Kosovo, to recreate the role that Albania had until 2013, the leading role in the region for stability and regional integration into the EU. A role that our country lost since 2014, passing to Vu?i?", - said Shehu. /CNA
