Erald Kapri evaluates the figure of Llazar Fundo: One of the originators of the

MP Erald Kapri spoke about the figure of the prominent intellectual Llazar (Zai) Fundo, as the report on the activities of the Institute for Studies on the Crimes and Consequences of Communism in Albania for 2024 is being discussed in parliament.

In his speech in the Assembly, Kapri stated that Llazar (Zai) Fundo was one of the originators of the European Union.

The MP stated that Llazar (Zai) Fundo was killed on the orders of former dictator Enver Hoxha and according to the revisionist law of this parliament, no researcher and the institute itself can study this crime of communism.

Kapri has proposed as a recommendation for other sessions or committees to restore the law as it was before, so that such a crime can be studied, since figures such as Llazar (Zai) Fundo cannot be left in oblivion.

He stated that Llazar (Zai) Fundo was a respected, pan-European figure, the founder of the modern left.

"The previous legislature made a legal change to the law on the Institute of Crimes and Consequences of Communism, censoring it.

Forcing him to make the study period from November 29 to the protests of December 1990.

In short, a public institution, the Assembly sets dates for consequences that do not deal with the war period. Now I want to raise a concern. I was taking a specific case, for one of the founders of the modern Albanian left, Zai Fundo.

Zai Fundo was killed directly on the orders of Enver Hoxha, at the end of September 1944, and according to the review law of this parliament, no researcher and the institute itself can study this crime of communism.

Now I would like to have the opinion of the speaker of parliament, also about the figure of Zai, also about an issue because the father of the speaker of parliament was in prison with Zai Fundo in Ventotene in Italy. But the Albanian state prohibits studying this figure, who is a pan-European figure.

And even as many Western intellectuals of his time say, he is one of the originators of the European Union. So for a respected figure, founder of the modern left, the Albanian state cannot do any study because he was killed during the war and on the orders of Enver Hoxha.

"So I hope we propose as a recommendation in the next sessions or committees to restore the law as it was before. There are no deadlines in studies and we cannot leave such a figure in oblivion because that's what some want," said Kapri./ CNA
