The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, in a statement to the media, said that the voting process is going normally.

As for the issue of expired cards of citizens in Himara Municipality, he said it is not the competence of the institution that it leads.

Celibashi admitted that there are 6,000 voters with expired identity cards, but that this number was also last year.

"It is true that there are 6,000 voters whose documents have either expired or will expire until today. I have to say that the same number of voters was in the last elections. Why for these elections no decision was taken by the government to extend the validity of identity cards, I cannot say. We did not have a communique today because it is not that there would be a solution today. This issue should have been resolved earlier. It is an issue related to the interest of the voters to have an identification document and then the responsible state authorities had to respond to the interest.
