The British at DP headquarters/ Concerns about political persecution of the

Diplomat Shakira Birtwhistle, who follows political issues at the British Embassy in Tirana, met at the headquarters of the Democratic Party with the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations Ilda Zhulali and the Head of the Municipal Council of Tirana, Ilir Alimehmeti.

The political situation was discussed at the meeting, where DP representatives conveyed their views on the necessity for a caretaker government with the aim of ensuring minimum standards for the 2025 elections.

This scheme used successfully in North Macedonia can and should be implemented in Albania, as a minimum guarantee for competitive elections.

This is also in line with the two priority recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR that require taking measures for the misuse of state resources as a weapon for vote alienation and massive vote buying and selling through public funds.

DP representatives informed the British diplomat about the government's political attack on the opposition, through the political imprisonment of the Leader of the opposition, Sali Berisha, the vice-chairman of the Parliamentary Group, Ervin Salianji, the member of the National Council, Jamarbër Malltezi, and the public threat directed at the chairman of the Parliamentary Group , Gazment Bardhi.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to increase the number of contacts between the British Embassy and DP representatives./ CNA
