Belind Këlliç is awarded the title "Missionary of Values",

The political leader of the Democratic Party for Tirana, Belind Këlliçi, was present at the Tirana Sofra, where he was presented with the title "Missionary of Values", awarded to his great-grandfather, Masar Këlliçi.

Through a post on social media, Këlliçi writes that he is privileged that the title was handed to him by people who have the same memories and love for Tirana.

Këlliçi further writes that the appreciation for his great-grandfather is also a call to stand by each other.

Former politician Arben Tafaj, who passed away in 2024, was also remembered.

This year's Tirana Sofra was organized amidst very strong emotions and experiences!

On a personal level, it was a special honor for me to accept, on behalf of the Këlliçi family, the title "Missionary of Values", awarded to my great-grandfather Masar Këlliçi with the motivation: "For the contribution made to the declaration of Albania's Independence and in laying the foundations of the modern Albanian state."

I feel privileged that this title was handed to me by the hands of my community, by people who share the same roots, memories and love for this city, by a personality like Prof. Dr. Nevila Nika, one of the most renowned researchers and archivists in the country!

This recognition is not simply a personal honor, but a call to be closer to each other at a time when our Tirana is changing rapidly.

In this city that expands and transforms every day, we must take care not to lose our cultural awareness: memories, customs, toponyms, humor, way of life, etc. These qualities have characterized us and helped us get through the darkest times, as well as the most prosperous moments, when we have welcomed every other community in Tirana with open-mindedness and love.

Today more than ever, we need to encourage the younger generation not only to love Tirana, but to understand it, protect it, and make it their own. And for this, we need each and every one of us!

This title actually reminds me that responsibility begins with the individual, but the power is always in the community.

My friends,

Our community lost one of its most outstanding representatives last year, a 24-karat citizen, a wise and noble man, a good soldier, politician and civic activist, Arben Tafaj.

For me and many in our city, Arben was not only a good friend and colleague, but he was a tireless activist and an open door for each of us!

His best work and memory is now deeply rooted in the tradition and annual organization of the "Sofra e Tirana", an activity that best embodies the civic values ??and customs of our excellent community.

I sincerely thank the "Arben Tafaj" Foundation for this extraordinary organization and honor it bestowed upon my family.

Two words at the end about the pride of our family, Masar Këlliçi:

After completing his studies in finance in Istanbul, he maintained close ties with Albanian patriots and was a close friend of the Toptani family. He became involved in the patriotic movement led by Sermedin Toptani, who secretly distributed books in the Albanian language within Albanian territory.

After completing his education, Masari and his brother, Mytesim Këlliçi, settled for a short period in the city of Bursa, Turkey. But the ideal of liberating the country soon brought him back to his homeland, where he joined the Movement for the Independence of Albania in 1912.

After the declaration of Independence, in 1920, Masar Këlliçi was elected Financier of the Muslim Community for Tirana, while in 1921 he was elected a Deputy in the First Albanian Parliament.

Together with his brother, Mytesim Këlliçi, the Mufti of Tirana, Senator in the Congress of Lushnja and co-founder of the "Orphanage", today the "Zyber Hallulli" Children's Home, they were among the main initiators of this historic Congress.

Masar Këlliçi was a staunch believer in the idea of ??Albania's independence and sovereignty. Throughout his life, he worked and fought with dedication to preserve and strengthen the Albanian national identity./ CNA
