The DP member of the Tirana Municipal Council, Ilir Alimehmeti, declared today that the Municipality of Tirana has been 'usurped' by Rama, it was done only for his own benefit, in order to win a mandate in the elections.

Invited to a television studio, Alimehmeti said that the Municipality of Tirana is currently 'in clinical death'.

According to him, this institution is no longer fully functional for Tirana and has been taken hostage by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"He is fallen, he was fallen from before. He was no longer doing the job of mayor, he was only dealing with his own problems. On the one hand he was abusing, on the other hand he was trying to hide what he was abusing, but he was no longer dealing with the municipality. So, he had fallen from the beginning as mayor.

I remember that with the first avalanche of its own directors who were arrested, the municipality practically fell into clinical death. From the moment Taulant Tushe was arrested, the work was over, no one dared to sign so easily anymore. Things started to be delayed. And when Erion Veliaj was also arrested, we now have a precedent, several precedents in fact in Albania, where much smaller abuses by mayors have occurred, they have been dismissed or have been asked to resign.

Local and central government are separated by the constitution. If it weren't for that, we wouldn't have had two elections.

With the arrest of Veliaj, it was necessary to immediately convene the Council, but Romina Kuko did not convene it. It is her duty. But even when she convened it, it was not on the agenda at all. The Mayor is in prison and what will happen to the Tirana Municipality? This was not at all under discussion, it was not on the agenda and was not accepted and she herself did not come.

He left the session to Jualin Hodaj, who is another deputy.

"The Municipality of Tirana is currently in clinical death. Ms. Ristani was appointed there, but she does not have the full powers of an elected mayor. She goes there, pays the salaries, but does not do what we need.
