The trap of our everyday cynicism

A friend asked me if we have become too cynical in Albania. Yes, we have become and this has left us behind for years and years, so much so that today I think it is difficult for us to become and pick ourselves up.

We went bankrupt in the past, but we are also currently bankrupt as a state, society, nation and politics, because Albania was betrayed by its political leadership, by a political class addicted to robbery, comfort and indifference to institutions and meritocracy. And from our tolerance towards behaviors and attitudes that are not justified by any alibi and that should not even have the most minimal justification.

Someone has called it a new kind of consciousness model: ie. you listen and watch so much that nothing impresses you anymore.

Did our economic, social, political bankruptcy wake us up from lethargy?

The truth is that even today very few things are shocking for the Albanian society. Nor the robberies of hundreds of millions of euros. Nor the scandals of the highest state officials; nor the scandalous videos of senior officials. Not even the sensational "escapes" of the government's number 2. Not even the mafia that does what it likes. Not even scandalous prime ministerial language. Nor the fact that Albania no longer has an opposition. Nor the robbery of the vote and the alienation of the free will of the citizens in the elections. Nor the analyzes of analysts who are paid hundreds of thousands of euros per month by the oligarchs and the government to speak about justice, the suffering of the people and to manipulate public opinion. Nothing impresses Albanian citizens anymore.

And at every table the refrain is heard: "Doesn't everyone do the same thing?" or "Walk there old man, that's how Albania is!".

Albanians are no longer shocked by anything.
Society is tired, exhausted after years of crisis and, now, facing the great risk of further impoverishment.

There are no moral pillars to lean on.
The Albanian moral and political stake continues to descend lower and lower, pulling everyone with it.

Real intellectuals are being consumed by petty political and personal squabbles.
Our education is miserable at all levels. Medicine as well. Justice still sleeps! Order on earth!

The hope that keeps a society going and moves it towards the future has been killed.

Politicians chop salad on the floor of the parliament, while afterwards they all drink coffee together and make fun of the Albanians who are amazed by their "fights" and political performance.

Politics has become a big pre-political hall, with endless rumors and rumours; with conspiratorial ideas, which even the children of daycare centers no longer convince: "He told me...", "She told me...", "They will tell me..."

Rarely do you hear speeches, ideas and alternatives that attract attention with theses and antitheses, arguments and counterarguments, with clear and cultured language and not that of wood, hateful and refractory.

Politicians of all parties wake up Greek, dine Italian and sleep Turkish, absorbed by business and the millions they earn daily.

Unfortunately in Albania, there are people in key positions who cannot represent the institutions with dignity and seriousness. They seem to care more about a photo than the product they have to put out and voted for.

Dhe, duke parë të gjitha këto, njerëzit fillojnë të mendojnë shumë shkurt dhe shumë thjesht. Mendojnë me cinizëm. Dhe po ashtu veprojnë. Shkojnë me atë dhe pas atij që bën diferencën. Shkojnë me aparencën dhe jo me thelbin. Dhe kështu shqiptari i heq vizën ideve e vizionit politik dhe zgjedh interesin e ngushtë personal. Shet votën tek pushteti për lekë apo një vend pune, shet votën për ndonjë favor tjetër, etj, etj...
Dhe shqiptarët votojnë duke parë vetëm interesin e tyre, për t’u revoltuar pastaj me ata që kanë zgjedhur pasi ata që votuan shohin interesiin e tyre.

E dija që miku im nuk po pyeste, kështu, në përgjithësi, por më drejtohej edhe mua.

Mendova se e kisha shmangur grackën e cinizmit, megjithëse vazhdoj të kem një besim të thellë se ky vend NUK mund të bëhet.

Dhe pse, në një mjedis toksik dhe të vështirë, mendova se nuk e lashë cinizmin përreth të prishte një busull bazë, që çdokush mban brenda për të vështirën.

Sidoqoftë, vjen një moment dhe na duken rutinë ato gjëra që nuk duhet të jenë. Sepse të gjithë, ose kemi rënë në grackën e cinizmit, ose në kurthin e depresionit të “kështu ka qenë gjithmonë”.
Ose sepse besojmë se nuk ka alternativë apo rrugë tjetër.
