4 rules for well-being the French way

According to a recent survey, healthy living is now a major concern for the French, with a whopping 78% incorporating such a program into their lives, to the point of creating trends in well-being.

Outdoor exercises

According to a 2023 Eurobarometer survey, 60% of French adults meet the World Health Organization's recommended 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, compared to just 53% of Americans. And according to Innova Market Insights, in France, almost half of people who exercise regularly prefer outdoor activities to improve their mood and vitality. Their favorite daily activity? Walking or cycling, which they don't forget to do even on vacation.

3 is the magic number for their dietary pleasure

The French eat 3 regular meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner - but they don't snack in between. They don't eat a lot of carbs and sugar and they don't skip lunch because - guess what - they'll eat more at night. One of their smart dinner tips is to divide dinner into 3 different dishes because more dishes on the table means dinner will last longer. The French also put colors on their plate. At least three. Because "First the eye is full" and then the stomach. There are three sources of nutrition in every meal: Protein, fat and carbohydrates. There are also three elements that they never forget when eating: Pleasure, Portion and Planning. And one last thing... The first three bites are the ones that provide pleasure.

Vitamin supplements

Two out of three French consumers take at least one type of supplement, with 14% of consumers having increased their intake of supplements after, of course, having previously visited a doctor and carried out the necessary tests. These statistics show that the French have further improved the parameters that lead to a healthy and comprehensive lifestyle: they apply moderation - as Monique said - but also a multi-level approach to well-being. These seem to be the keys to staying happy and healthy.

Vegetarian diet and fiber

When I think of French food, I think of cold cuts, boeuf Bourguignon, and oven-fresh baguettes filled with rich but refined cheeses. However, while the French are traditionally known for these foods, by 2025 they will be leaning more towards vegetarian and high-fiber diets. According to a survey, 58% of meat eaters in France say they have reduced their annual meat intake, with 25% of French people considering themselves flexitarians. What does that mean? First and foremost, balance and moderation. In other words, the French enjoy a hearty meal every now and then, but their daily diet is rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. /CNA
