Danger for drivers/ The 2 worst roads in Europe

Driving is never completely safe, and especially during the holidays, when the road is unfamiliar, drivers need to be careful.

Rough roads, extreme weather conditions, and traffic jams can turn a great trip into a nightmare if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere.

But should people be more careful in some countries than in others? A study by Ovoko says they should.

Romania's Transfagarasan: Mountain Dangers

Romania has the highest risk of your car breaking down (98.3). Drivers should be especially careful on the DN7, also known as the Transfagarasan.

The 151-kilometer mountain road connecting the regions of Transylvania and Wallachia is frequently hit by floods, landslides and rock falls, making it one of the most dangerous in Europe.

Hungary's M1: A troubled road in Central Europe

Hungary came in second place, with a score of 91.90 points. The M1 motorway, the main artery between Budapest and the Austrian capital, Vienna, has one of the highest accident rates in the country.

One of the worst accidents was an accident involving 42 vehicles, including five trucks with trailers, that occurred in 2023, just 25 kilometers outside of Budapest. The accident reportedly happened after a dust storm swept across the highway. /CNA
