Tragedy in Italy/ The train hit 5 workers, traveling at 160 km per hour

A tragic accident happened in Turin, Italy, where a train hit and killed 5 maintenance workers.

The accident happened a few minutes after midnight on the Turin-Milan line, between Chivasso and Brandizzo, in an area where a contractor was working. The train that hit the workers was traveling at a speed of 160 km per hour towards Turin and was empty.

The crash left no way out for the victims, who were dragged hundreds of meters. After the collision, the train stopped one kilometer from the collision point.

The workers are all employees of an external company, Sigifer e Borgo Vercelli. There were numerous police, carabinieri and Polfer patrols at the scene, as well as various firefighting teams.

The dynamics of what happened are now being examined by the competent authorities and by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.
