October 12th Elections in Kosovo/ Counting and verification of regular votes

The Central Election Commission announced that activities at the Municipal Counting Centers for the local elections of October 12 have been completed. Meanwhile, for the third day in a row at the Counting and Results Center, the counting of postal votes is continuing.

The last municipalities in which the counting and verification of results process was completed in the late hours of Saturday were Pristina, Prizren, Gjilan and Malisheva.

The CEC announced on October 19 that, regarding domestic voting, the results for 2,571 regular polling stations from the mayoral elections and the results for political entities from the municipal assembly elections from 2,571 polling stations have been verified.

"From the same number of polling stations, 2,571, the votes of the candidates from the municipal assembly elections were counted. So, in this process, at the NCC, 5,142 ballot boxes belonging to two types of elections were processed," the announcement said.

The counting and verification of votes from abroad is currently ongoing and according to data, by 10:00 on Sunday, 54 ballot boxes for mayors and another 45 for municipal assemblies had been counted.

Citizens living outside Kosovo voted by mail from September 17 to October 11. According to the CEC, there were 33,841 packages of supposed ballots and after verification, 29,636 were approved. The counting of these votes began on October 17.

After the counting of these ballots is completed, conditional votes and votes from people with special needs will also be counted, and then the CEC will announce the results for the first round of local elections.

The second round is expected to be held on November 9. According to preliminary results, 21 municipalities have elected their mayors in the first round, while a runoff round is expected to be organized in 17 others.

On election day, 39.58 percent of over two million eligible citizens within the country voted. /REL
