Voted in the US Senate/ Kashyap Patel elected as FBI director

The US Senate voted to confirm Kash Patel's new role as FBI director, placing a staunch loyalist of President Donald Trump and a conservative at the helm of the nation's top law enforcement agency.

During his Senate confirmation speech, Patel said there will be no politicization at the FBI and no punitive action.

Plano 2025 calls for the FBI to be completely reformed, including a mandate to prohibit the agency from "engaging, generally, in activities related to combating the spread of so-called disinformation and disinformation by Americans that is not associated with any credible criminal activity."

Kashyap Patel is an American lawyer, former federal prosecutor and official, and theorist.

Patel has spoken of his desire for major changes at the FBI, including a reduced footprint at headquarters in Washington and a renewed emphasis on the bureau's traditional crime-fighting duties rather than the intelligence-gathering and national security work that has come to define its mandate over the past two decades. /CNA
