Vatican will not participate in the Peace Board/ First reaction from the White

The White House has reacted after the Vatican declared that it will not participate in the "Peace Board" established by US President Donald Trump.

In a statement to the media, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that the Vatican's decision was deeply regrettable.

"I don't think peace should be partisan, political or controversial. And of course, the administration wants everyone who was invited to join the peace board to join. This is a legitimate organization with dozens of member countries from around the world, and we think this is a deeply regrettable decision ," Leavitt said.

Yesterday, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's top diplomatic official, while announcing the Vatican's decision not to participate, said that efforts to address crisis situations should be managed by the United Nations.

Diplomats, officials and world leaders have also expressed concerns about the extension of the board's mandate, Trump's indefinite presidency and the potential damage it could cause to the work of the UN.

Pope Leo has made repeated calls for Gaza since his election, calling for a two-state solution and for the right of Palestinians to live in peace on their land.
