"$100,000 per episode"/ Turkey's plan to promote the country

The Turkish government has announced a financial aid of $100,000 per episode for producers of popular Turkish TV series that promote Turkey, its language and cuisine.

Turkey plans to use TV series as a tool to boost its tourism industry, Culture Minister Mehmet Ersoy said in presenting the plan.

He praised the largest Turkish language lesson for one billion viewers, noting that Turkish series generate $1 billion in export revenue to 170 countries on all continents. According to the minister, this is a historical record.

To receive this government aid, the productions must contribute to "promoting Turkey, spreading the language" and be exported to target markets for Turkish tourism.

Ersoy assured that access to historical sites will be easier, more frequent and free for filming. As an effective tool, TV series contribute to the country's brand and attract visitors who want to see the landscapes and filming locations, especially in Istanbul, where travel agents offer special itineraries. /CNA
