Israeli army: We hit Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanese cities

The Israeli military has announced that it has struck Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanese cities.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun criticized the recent Israeli attacks, saying that every time Lebanon expresses its openness to peace negotiations, Israel intensifies its aggression.

Israeli warplanes hit several towns in southern Lebanon on Thursday after urging residents to leave, marking an escalation in their near-daily attacks on the country.

The airstrikes came hours after the militant group Hezbollah urged the Lebanese government not to enter into negotiations with Israel.

According to Israeli Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee, residents in Tayba near the border, Teir Debba located east of the coastal city of Tyre, and Aita al-Jabal in southern Lebanon were given advance warning to move 500 meters away from residential buildings that Israel was targeting.

Adraee said the buildings were being used by Hezbollah. Later, further warnings were issued for the towns of Zaëtar al-Sharqiyah and Kfar Dounin.

The Israeli military said it targeted military infrastructure for Hezbollah in those areas, including weapons storage facilities built in the center of civilian-populated areas.

She accused the group of rebuilding its capabilities almost a year after a US-brokered ceasefire came into effect, ending a month-long war.

While most residents evacuated threatened areas ahead of the attacks, Lebanon's health ministry reported one person injured.

"We will not allow Hezbollah to rearm, to recover, to build its strength to threaten the state of Israel," Israeli government spokesman Shosh Bedrosian said at a press conference on Thursday./ CNA
