Sarkozy's days behind bars/ Former French president refuses to eat prison

The diet plan that the former president of the French Republic is following while imprisoned in the Sante prison in Paris has caused concern in Nicolas Sarkozy's inner circle. Behind bars since October 21, Sarkozy has decided, according to the French media Le Point, to follow a special dietary regime himself. 

Knowing the resentment that many of the other prisoners have towards him, he refuses to touch any of the food served to him in his cell. According to sources cited by the media, Sarkozy fears that someone may have poisoned his food. Since the day of his arrest 2.5 weeks ago, French media write that Nicolas Sarkozy has eaten only yogurt. 

Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison for allegedly financing his 2007 election campaign from Libya. Two armed police officers have been called in to protect him inside the prison on a 24-hour basis. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the decision was taken because of a threat to Sarkozy's life. /CNA
