A man has been arrested in Mexico for allegedly sexually harassing the country's president, Claudia Sheinbaum. The incident occurred yesterday as the president was walking through Mexico City before an event at the Ministry of Public Education when a man approached her from behind.

In videos published by foreign media, the man was seen emerging from the crowd and approaching Sheinbaum, attempting to kiss and touch her body. The Mexican president tried not to escalate the situation and agreed to take a photo with the person before continuing with her agenda.

During her press conference this morning, Sheinbaum announced that she had filed a lawsuit against the alleged attacker.

"No man has the right to violate that space. I decided to file a lawsuit because this is something I experienced as a woman, but that we as women experience in our country. I experienced it before, when I was not president, when I was a student," she said at the conference.

Meanwhile, the incident has also been denounced by other Mexican government authorities. Senator Malu Micher Camarena, who is president of the Senate's Gender Equality Committee, described the incident as "absolutely unacceptable." /CNA
