New York Elections/ Trump: The results were not good for Republicans, the government shutdown is to blame

US President Donald Trump has reacted to the elections that were held the day before in the US. A day after the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York, the US president said that the result was not the best for Republicans. 

According to Donald Trump, the reason for the results was the government shutdown, i.e. the suspension of the functioning of federal agencies due to a disagreement between Democrats and Republicans over the budget bill. At the same time, the US president put pressure on Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster.

"It's time for Republicans to do what they need to do, and that's to abolish the filibuster,"  he said, warning that otherwise they will find themselves in a bad position and will not be able to pass any bills.

A filibuster is a procedure in the Senate that allows for unlimited debate on a bill. This means that senators can speak as much as they want about a bill. The goal is to delay or prevent the passage of a bill. /CNA
