Serious accident on French island/ Car hits 10 pedestrians, 4 in critical

At least four people are in critical condition after a driver crashed his car into 10 pedestrians on the French island of Ile d'Oleron, as reported in foreign media.

The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old man, was charged with attempted murder and is accused of intentionally driving into people on the tourist island. He drove between two villages before hitting the victims, including a young girl, before being immobilized with a stun gun during his arrest, according to the mayor of Dolus d'Oleron, Thibault Brechkoff.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle, which he then attempted to set on fire after a gas canister was found in the back of the car, before attempting to flee, according to Brechkoff. 

The suspect is being held by police in Saint-Pierre-d'Oleron, however, anti-terror authorities have not been assigned to the case.

The incident took place on Ile d'Oleron, France's second largest island, with witnesses claiming to have seen a series of incidents taking place in several areas, before culminating outside a bakery./CNA
