Details emerge from the murder of two brothers in Malisheva/ Suspected

Two adult brothers were shot dead on Thursday in a village in Malisheva, Kosovo, authorities confirmed. The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina said the suspected gunman had a criminal record and had been in custody earlier in the year.

"The State Prosecutor filed a request for detention against the suspect AI on 06.04.2025, which was also ordered by the competent court. Also, on 07.04.2025, the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina filed an indictment against the defendant AI for the criminal offenses of 'domestic violence' and 'threat'," said the spokesperson for the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina, Kaltrina Shala, in a response sent to Radio Free Europe.

Meanwhile, according to the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Gjakova, Enis Gashi, the authorities still do not know the exact motive for the double murder.

"We are dealing with a serious, double murder. The perpetrator of this criminal offense is still at large and the police, in cooperation with the prosecution, are taking all measures to identify him as soon as possible and ensure his presence ," said Prosecutor Gashi during a statement to the media.

He confirmed that the suspected gunman and the victims have family relations.

"Right now we cannot provide additional information because we need to verify this information and then we will come up with an official announcement so that the information is as accurate as possible. What I can say is that the victims and the suspect have family relations, but we still do not know the exact motive," he stressed.

Police spokesman for the Gjakova region, Sheremet Elezi, told Radio Free Europe that the suspect had shot them with a firearm on Thursday shortly before noon in the village of Golluboc in Malisheva, in central Kosovo.

They were then taken to the Family Medicine Center in the nearby village of Kijevë, where doctors pronounced them dead.

"Medical personnel at the QMF have determined the victims' deaths. The necessary police units have immediately responded to the case and have arrived at the scene ," said Elezi.

Meanwhile, the police director for the Gjakova region, Lumni Graishta, told local media earlier in the day that the suspected perpetrator is the victims' son-in-law.

He added that the motives for the double murder are believed to be related to "an argument between them." Their killing comes just months after five murders occurred in different parts of the country in August alone.

Security experts have repeatedly called for the state to do more to confiscate illegal weapons, arguing that they can be easily found on the black market. They also call for increased police operations to reduce the number of armed incidents. /REL
