The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will start a four-day visit to the Western Balkans on Sunday.

That day, the head of the European bloc will meet with officials from North Macedonia, while on Monday she will be in Pristina, to meet with the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, and the prime minister, Albin Kurti.

On the following day, she will visit Podgorica and Belgrade, while on Wednesday she will finish her visit in Sarajevo.

She will meet with the leaders of all countries.

Her visit to these Balkan countries comes after her visit to Albania, on October 15-16.

There, von der Leyen participated in the Berlin Process summit.

At that summit, a call was made for this region to become a member of the European Union as soon as possible.

The Berlin process is not a formal EU policy process towards the Western Balkans region.

It is an initiative of Germany, supported by other EU countries such as Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and then also France, Italy, Poland and others, which aims to help the development of the region, the mutual cooperation between them, ensure the attraction of investments and thus help those countries in their preparation for EU membership in the future./ REL
