North Korea supplied Russia with weapons / USA and Japan react strongly

The United States, Japan and South Korea on Thursday condemned what they said was North Korea's supply of munitions and military equipment to Russia, saying such weaponry significantly increases the damage and civilian casualties from Russia's war in Ukraine.

In a joint statement, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said: "We will continue to work together with the international community to expose Russia's attempts to obtain military equipment from [North Korea]”.

"Such arms deliveries, some of which we can confirm have taken place, will greatly increase the human toll from Russia's war of aggression," they said.

Their statement comes just days after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed an earlier US claim that his country had received munitions from North Korea, saying Washington had failed to prove it.

North Korea and Russia – both embroiled in confrontations with the US and its allies – have recently taken steps to strengthen military relations.

Speculation that North Korea is supplying Russia with conventional weapons to replenish depleted stockpiles grew significantly last month when North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to Russia to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. where he visited the main military facilities of Russia.

The US, South Korea and others believe that North Korea intends to obtain sophisticated weapons technology from Russia to improve its nuclear program in exchange for supplying the Russian Army with ammunition.
