France says it will help send aid to hospitals in Gaza

French President Emmanuel Macron said his country would send a navy ship to deliver aid to hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

The ship will depart from the French military port of Toulon in the Mediterranean Sea within 48 hours, he said. Macron gave no other details.

Also, a French plane will go to Egypt on Thursday to deliver medical equipment, which will then be trucked to Gaza.

"There will be other aid," Macron said, adding that France wants to provide civilians in Gaza with access to medicine and healthcare.

Macron made the comments in Egypt on Wednesday. A day earlier he stayed in Israel to show France's support for Israel following the October 7 attacks by Hamas. The visit also included a stop in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, where he met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Macron in Egypt said that "there can be no double standards... international law applies to everyone".

"All the victims deserve our compassion, our commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East," he said.

More than 1,400 people were killed in the coordinated attacks of the Hamas militant group in the south of Israel. Israel retaliated by repeatedly bombing the Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians. In Gaza, according to the health authorities, over 5,700 people have been killed./ Rel
