Trump calls Lebanese president/ Possibility of a ceasefire in the war with Hezbollah

US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

The communication comes as Israel is considering whether to accept a ceasefire in its war with Hezbollah. Lebanon has called for a ceasefire and a US official said Trump would welcome such a decision.

An Israeli defense official said a ceasefire could be declared Thursday evening, but nothing is final, as reported by foreign media.

The Lebanese presidency confirmed the call between the two presidents. The statement said Aoun thanked Trump for pushing for a ceasefire and Trump pledged to fulfill the Lebanese request for a ceasefire as soon as possible.

The ceasefire proposal is politically sensitive for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but could help Trump reach a peace deal with Iran./CNA
