The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said today that very detailed measures to verify Iran's nuclear activities must be included in a possible agreement to end the war in the Middle East.
Grossi stressed the need for a full verification regime for Iran's nuclear program, while US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that a second round of peace talks could take place over the next two days.
"Iran has a very ambitious and extensive nuclear program. So all of this will require the presence of IAEA inspectors; otherwise you will not have an agreement, you will have an illusion of an agreement. So, I am sure that we will be asked and we will be asked when the parties reach an agreement, hopefully, to provide the necessary safeguards verification component of the agreement," Grossi warned.
Tehran has not allowed the IAEA access to its nuclear facilities bombed by Israel and the United States, according to a confidential IAEA report circulated to member states in February. /CNA
