"He's not the same person anymore"/ Trump attacks Meloni

US President Donald Trump has attacked Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying she doesn't care if Iran has nuclear weapons.

In an interview with the Italian media outlet, "Corriere della Sera", Trump said that he had not communicated with Meloni for a long time and that "she is not the same person anymore".

A few days ago, Meloni criticized Trump's comments about Pope Leo, calling them "unacceptable." Regarding this, the American president said: "It's Meloni who is unacceptable."

The comments mark a shift in Trump's stance toward the Italian prime minister, who just a month ago had described Meloni as a "friend" and "great leader."

Italy's support for US operations in the Middle East had already been controversial in Washington, after Rome denied, in late March, the use of the Sicilian military base of Sigonella for two war-ready flights bound for Iran. /CNA
