UN Secretary-General calls for US and Iran to return to negotiations

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the US and Iran to resume negotiations in the hope of ending the war, saying it is clear there is no military solution to the conflict.

Guterres said that the ceasefire must be maintained and all violations must stop.

"I call for the resumption of talks to reach an agreement ," he added.

The secretary-general also said that all nations must respect freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law.

A US blockade of Iranian ports has been in effect since yesterday, according to US President Donald Trump. US Vice President JD Vance accused Iran of "economic terrorism", while calling the US blockade of Iranian ports an equal response. /CNA
