Pope Leo XIV arrives in Cameroon for second leg of African trip

Pope Leo XIV arrived in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, today after a five-hour flight as part of his tour of several African countries. While meeting with journalists on the papal plane, he gave a brief speech, thanking the Algerian authorities and reflecting on the first part of the trip.

Pope Leo XIV is the third pope to visit Cameroon.

He will also visit the city of Bamenda, about 230 miles from the capital, at the center of the Anglophone crisis, a complex situation in which English-speaking separatists have also called for the formation of their own state.

The Pope will also visit Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, thus touching on all the main realities of the country before departing for the state of Angola on April 18./ CNA
