Pope Leo XIV: The world is being destroyed by a handful of tyrants, they are orchestrators of war

Pope Leo XIV has sharply attacked leaders who spend billions on wars and said the world is being destroyed by a handful of tyrants.

The Pope made rare, extremely critical comments during his visit to Cameroon after US President Donald Trump attacked him on social media.

"The orchestrators of war pretend not to know that it only takes a moment to destroy, but a lifetime is often not enough to rebuild. They turn a blind eye to the fact that billions of dollars are spent on killing and destruction, yet the necessary resources for education are nowhere to be found," the Pope said.

He also criticized leaders who use religious language to justify wars and called for a decisive change of course during a meeting in Cameroon's largest city in the English-speaking region./CNA
