White House: Discussions in Pakistan on second round of Iran talks

The White House announced this Wednesday that the United States is discussing holding a second round of peace talks with Iran in Pakistan and is optimistic about reaching an agreement.

Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt told reporters that the next meeting could be held again in Islamabad.

"These discussions are ongoing and we feel good about the prospects for an agreement. It is very likely that further talks will take place in Islamabad," Leavitt said.

The comments come after US President Donald Trump raised hopes on Tuesday that the war in Iran was nearing an end.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also said it was very likely that talks would resume, citing a meeting he had with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. /CNA
