Trump plans to visit Florida's new immigration detention center, 'Alligator Alcatraz'

President Trump is expected to visit Florida this Tuesday to tour what has been dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz," a migrant detention center in the Everglades that the state has set up in just a few days.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke about the president's trip at a press conference.

"When the president comes, he'll be able to see. What's going to happen is you're going to bring people in there, they're not going to go anywhere once they're there unless you want them to go somewhere. So the security is amazing, natural and not just," DeSantis said.

Florida officials announced early last week that they had received federal approval to build a detention facility at Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, an isolated 39-square-mile airstrip located within the wetlands of Big Cypress National Preserve, near Everglades National Park.

Its single runway, approximately 11,000 meters long, is used mainly for training purposes, but officials say it will soon accommodate deportation flights./CNA
