EU and Ukraine reach preliminary agreement on agricultural exports

The European Union and Ukraine have agreed on an initial agreement for future agricultural exports to the EU, European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic announced.

The EU had temporarily suspended tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural products in June 2022, in an effort to support Ukraine's economy after the Russian invasion and problems with navigation in the Black Sea.

However, these measures were suspended in early June 2025, after a wave of cheap Ukrainian exports, mainly grain, poultry, and sugar, caused strong reactions in neighboring countries, especially Poland.

Since then, the EU has returned to the pre-war trade framework, reinstating tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural exports.

The EU remains Ukraine's largest trading partner, while Ukraine is the Union's third largest supplier of agri-food products, according to official Commission data. /CNA
