Trump accuses China of grossly violating preliminary trade agreement

US President Donald Trump accused China of violating a tariff agreement with the United States in a social media post on May 30, after his Treasury Secretary said negotiations had stalled.

"Everyone was happy! That's the good news!!! The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, has TOTALLY BREACHED THEIR DEAL WITH US. So much for being Mr. GOOD GUY!" Trump said in the post on his social media platform 'Truth Social'.

Two weeks ago, the United States and China agreed to lower triple-digit tariffs for 90 days while negotiating a deal.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News on Thursday that the talks are "a little bit stuck," but they are continuing.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer declined to answer questions from reporters at the White House about the progress of trade negotiations with China or whether tariffs would be returned to 145%.

The temporary truce came after Trump imposed steep tariffs on Chinese imports to the US, and China retaliated in kind. Trump said he saved China from "serious economic harm" caused by his tariffs by agreeing to trade talks./CNA
