Zelensky: Russia is undermining the Istanbul talks before they start

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is doing everything it can to lead to the failure of the proposed talks in Istanbul, scheduled for June 2.

"For a meeting to be meaningful, the agenda must be clear and the negotiations must be properly prepared. Unfortunately, Russia is doing everything to ensure that the next possible meeting does not yield any results," Zelensky said in a post on the 'X' platform.

Meanwhile, Kiev is demanding that Moscow send its peace memorandum in time before talks begin.

Earlier, Russia told the UN Security Council that a simple ceasefire would not be enough to end the war in Ukraine, which is now in its fourth year, Reuters reports.

"For a lasting and sustainable solution to the Ukrainian crisis, the root causes must be addressed. What we are proposing is a second round of talks in Istanbul next Monday, where we can exchange memorandums on the approaches of both sides to the negotiation process," said Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia./CNA
