At least 12 killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks

Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip overnight and on Sunday, November 17, have killed at least 12 people, according to Palestinian health officials.

Six people were killed in the Nuseirat camp, while four others were killed in Bureixh. These refugee camps in Gaza were built in 1948, in the war that took place around the time Israel was created.

Two more people were killed during Israeli strikes in Gaza, said the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, which received all 12 bodies.

The war in Gaza began after Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing nearly 1,200 people and kidnapping 250 others. About 100 hostages are still inside Gaza and a third of them are believed to be dead.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza has said that nearly 43,800 Palestinians have been killed during the war in this territory. Also, about 90 percent of Gaza's population of 2.3 million have been displaced.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Israeli Police arrested three suspects after fireworks were thrown at the private residence of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Caesarea.

Authorities said Netanyahu and his family were not at the residence when two fireworks were set off overnight, adding that no one was injured.

These developments are taking place as Israel continues its war against Hamas in Gaza, but also battles Hezbollah – the militant group and political party that controls most of southern Lebanon – in Lebanon.

Last month, Hezbollah attacked Netanyahu's residence with a drone, but he and his family were not there.

Israeli police did not provide details on the arrested suspects, but officials said they were domestic political critics of Netanyahu.

Netanyahu has faced mass protests for months over his handling of the Hamas hostage crisis.

Critics blame Netanyahu for security and intelligence failures that allowed the October 7 attack to happen and for failing to reach an agreement with Hamas to release the hostages./ VOA
