Situation in the Middle East/ Macron: Escalation endangers the entire region

French President Emmanuel Macron said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, as well as Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, to discuss the situation in Lebanon.

In a statement, Macron said that the strategy of escalating the conflict endangers the entire region.

Further, the French president stated that it is important that the parties return to the ceasefire.

“I reaffirmed the need for Hezbollah to immediately cease its attacks against Israel and beyond. This strategy of escalation constitutes a major mistake that endangers the entire region. Similarly, I called on the Israeli prime minister to preserve the territorial integrity of Lebanon and to refrain from a ground offensive. It is important that the parties return to the ceasefire agreement ,” Macron said.
